Information.

All of the models in my collection are produced without castings. The components are either machined from solid or fabricated. Materials used are mainly cast iron and Durrall.
The majority of the models are in 1/5 scales.
This allows for a great deal of detail which would not be achievable at a smaller scale and would compromise the working element of the models which is something I take pride in.
I tend to work without official drawing although I have been known to jot a few sketches down on the back of a `cigarette packet`.
The paint finish is achieved using JAPLAC
INTERNATIONAL LACQUER.
I apply two coats of primer and approximately five coats of the
appropriate top coat, rubbed down with `wet and dry` between each
coat.
The range of Japlac is now very limited so I have to mix my own colours to match the original machine finish. To complete the display I scour the locale for suitable pieces of timber on which to mount my latest model. No coffee table is safe, whether oak, mahogany or humble pine. Attention to such seemingly `untechnical` areas of model making makes all the difference if you are to be a successful competitor in exhibitions.
The Bridgeport BRJ Milling machine was my first project. It has to be said it is still my favourite. This is probably because it was such good therapy in my recovery from serious illness.
